Payroll Specialist

As a Payroll Specialist, you'll ensure timely and compliant payroll for over 100 client entities, while delivering an experience that brings confidence and peace of mind. Your work will involve Payroll Relief, OnPay, and various federal and state filing platforms. This is a highly client-facing, detail-focused role that supports small business clients with a range of pay frequencies and compliance needs.
Key responsibilities
- Process weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payrolls using Payroll Relief and OnPay
- Manage wage calculations, direct deposits, and payroll taxes
- File all required federal, state, and local forms including 941, DE9/DE9C, W-2s
- Handle garnishments, child support payments, and retirement contributions
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with IRS, FTB, EDD, and FLSA regulations
- Respond to and resolve tax notices from federal and state agencies
- Assist clients transitioning to cloud-based payroll solutions
- Support clients with kindness and professionalism, delivering a five-star customer experience
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Professional and courteous communication skills
- Commitment to client confidentiality and data security

Preferred experience & skills
- 2+ years of experience in payroll processing or related compliance work
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field
- Proficiency with Payroll Relief, OnPay, or similar platforms
- Understanding of IRS, FTB, EDD, and DOL compliance requirements
- Experience resolving payroll tax notices or collaborating with agencies
